Activated carbon is one of the most widely used purification materials in the world. It cleans drinking water, removes PFAS from contaminated sites, recovers gold, and decolourises the food and beverages people consume every day. Almost all of it is made from coal.
 

Conventional production mines a finite resource, fires it at extreme temperature, and releases carbon that took millions of years to store. The industry solved a purification problem by creating an emissions one, and for decades there was no serious alternative.
 

Bygen was founded to be that alternative. Our patented Low-Temperature Activation process uses renewable agricultural and forestry by-products as feedstock and runs at a fraction of the thermal energy demand of conventional activation. The result meets the same performance specifications industry already relies on, without the carbon debt attached.
